Snake Bite

English Plantain (Plantago lanceolata)

Season: May-October

Uses: treat frostbite, rattlesnake bites, diarrhea, fever, coughing, infections, inflammation, stop bleeding, burns, insect bites, blisters, dermatitis, rope burn

Preparation: fresh leaves for frostbite, roots used for snake bites; decoction of roots for diarrhea, fever, cough; leaf and seed extract (antibacterial); hot-leaf poultice for inflammations and infections; decoction of dried leaves for bleeding; crushed fresh leaves, salve, cream, or poultice for burns, insect bites, blisters, dermatitis, chewed fresh leaf blended with water and applied to skin for rope burn




Common Juniper (Juniperus communis)
Tall Grass Prairie and Eastern Deciduous Forest
Habitat: meadows, fields, cliffs, rocky areas, roadsides
Season:  late winter into early spring -January through April. Some junipers will have a second bloom time that occurs in the fall and can last from September though December
Active chemical ingredient: alpha selinene

Uses: berries rubbed on wounds used for treating snake bites, wounds, pain in joints, fungal infection

Habitat: glades, prairies, rocky woods
Season: June-September
